MyGeotab audit logs provide a comprehensive record of all database modifications, recording both the changes made and the individuals responsible. This detailed logging is crucial for maintaining accountability, efficiently resolving system issues, ensuring data integrity, meeting compliance needs, enhancing security, and identifying the root cause of problems in MyGeot ab.

This document provides a list of which audit log types answer common questions, as well as a comprehensive list of audit logs by type.

Accessing audit logs

Determine which audit log you’re looking for by either looking at the Common questions and their associated audit logs section, or a list of many Common audit types.

Once you know the audit type you’re looking for, follow these steps in MyGeotab:

  1. In the MyGeotab main menu, select System > Audit Log.
  2. Click Options to filter the results.
  3. Choose the desired Date Period.
  4. In the Audit types box, enter the specific audit type you're interested in.
  5. Click Apply changes.
  6. Use the Search Name text box to search for specific devices, users, or other relevant information.

Common questions and their associated audit logs

When you have a question about something that happened in MyGeotab, think about the action that took place (e.g., "was something edited?", "was something added?", "was someone logged in?"). This section identifies audit types that match common questions.

Key considerations

  1. Limited View: The MyGeotab interface for the Audit Log displays a maximum of 500 entries at a time. For larger date ranges or extensive searching, exporting is recommended.
  2. "System" user: Some entries may be attributed to the "System" user, indicating automated events or background processes performed by MyGeotab itself, rather than a specific human user.
  3. Detailed descriptions: Always pay close attention to the detailed descriptions within each log entry. These provide crucial context for understanding the exact nature of the change or event.

Exporting to Excel

For more in-depth analysis, custom filtering, and to overcome the 500-entry limit, export the Audit Log to Excel:

  1. On the Audit Log page, apply your desired filters for the date range and audit types.
  2. At the top right of the page, click Reports and then select Advanced:document Image
  3. MyGeotab will generate the report. Once it’s ready, it will appear on the My Reports page where you can download it.

Once the report is downloaded, you can open it in Excel and use Excel's filtering, sorting, and search capabilities to analyze the data more comprehensively.
