Can a rule be created using engine diagnostics to alert fleet safety managers that a vehicles headlight, brake light, or tail lights are out?

Hello @ChrisL-1169 ,

Thank you for asking your question in our community. The vehicle would need to have the signal for this diagnostic for us to be able to see it. It is not likely to have this kind of diagnostic but not impossible. I would check the vehicles measurements and see if you are getting a measurement for it. If you are getting measurements for any of the lights let me know what it is and I can help you set up a rule to track it. Then you could be alerted via emails or other means if the light went out. You can find measurements under the Maintenance tab in MyGeotab.

Let us know if you have any other questions. We are here to help.

Have a great day!

Yes, it is possible to create a custom rule in MyGeotab using engine diagnostics, as long as the vehicle provides that specific data (like the status of the lights) through the diagnostic port.
To set it up, follow these steps:
1. Go to Rules & Groups > Rules.
2. Click Add.
3. In the Conditions tab, select Engine Data > Measurement or Data.
4. Look for the diagnostic related to the lights (for example, "Brake Lights" or "Headlights").
5. Set the condition (for example, "Equal to 0" for off) and click Add.
6. In the Notifications tab, set up who should receive the alert.
If the vehicle doesn't send this data natively, it might require using an IOX-AUXM auxiliary harness.

I took a quick look and I could only find the below engine diagnostics which all appear to indicate when the lights are on, rather than them not working.
