Archiving or removing rules

Archiving or removing rules! Let's get started. When a rule is triggered, an exception is made to record the event. But what happens to those exceptions when you disable the rule? In this tutorial, we will show you how to disable rules without deleting the exception history using the Archive Rule feature, and how you can disable a rule and remove the exception history by turning the rule off. Navigate to the Rules page in MyGeotab by either clicking Groups & Rules, then Rules, or searching for Rules in the menu. If you’d like to disable a rule and remove the exception history, toggle the rule to Off. If you click Turn off in the confirmation popup, the rule will be disabled, and the exception history will be removed. No more exceptions will be made for the disabled rule. You can always re-enable the rule by toggling it On. To disable a rule without removing the exception history, you'll instead Archive the rule. Start by clicking the Select none dropdown. You can select individual rules or all active rules. For this example, we'll select individual rules. Checkboxes will appear beside each active rule. The checkboxes will also appear next to your custom rules. Select a rule to archive by clicking on the checkbox. You can select multiple rules to archive at a time. Click Archive when finished selecting rules. MyGeotab disables the rule while keeping the exception history. A small cloud icon appears beside the name to indicate it's an archived rule. New exceptions will not be made as long as the rule is archived. Essentially, the rule will be paused until you restore it. Let's do that now. Click the Select none dropdown to restore a rule. You can select individual rules, all manually archived rules, or all active rules. For this example, we'll select individual rules. Select a rule to restore by clicking on the checkbox. Click Restore. MyGeotab restores the rule and will resume creating exceptions. You can also click on a custom rule to manually archive it. Mark the Archive rule checkbox. Then click Save. A small cloud icon appears beside the name to indicate it's an archived custom rule. You can restore the custom rule using the same method shown before, or by manually editing it to unmark the Archive rule checkbox. Congratulations!
