Accurate engine hour metrics are essential for customers managing preventative maintenance, billing, and data analysis. While MyGeotab currently favors raw engine hour telemetry directly from a vehicle's Electronic Control Unit (ECU), this data is inconsistent or incorrect for a segment of vehicles — resulting in faulty displayed engine hours that harm client confidence and can lead to premature or missed equipment maintenance.

Why it matters
  • A new device-level option lets users choose whether the platform tracks engine data via raw ECU Engine Hours, or generates synthesized hours from alternative telemetry sources like Ignition status or the Vehicle Active Signal.
  • The configuration lives in the Usage section within the Asset Details view, alongside the existing engine hour metric.
  • Out of the box, the platform still prefers ECU-sourced data when available. For assets incapable of reporting native ECU engine hours (such as standard 3-wire setups, or models missing the signal), the platform already calculates synthesized values automatically — no configuration changes needed for those cases.
  • Clients gain access to reliable, calculated engine hours when a vehicle's raw ECU engine data proves unstable.
