Restricting web platform access for driver-only roles

Starting with the July 29, 2026 release, MyGeotab® offers administrators the ability to restrict platform access directly at the security clearance level. You can now prevent driver-only users from logging into the MyGeotab web application while directing them straight to the Geotab Drive® app.

Why it matters

Managing large driver populations requires clear security boundaries to protect organizational data. Previously, security clearances controlled data visibility but could not restrict access to the web portal itself, allowing driver-only users to log into the web application. This update helps fleet administrators enforce a clear separation between drivers and fleet managers, lowering compliance and operational security risks.

  • Maintain robust security controls without disrupting current operations, as all existing users retain their web access by default.
  • Protect sensitive system settings while keeping driver workflows focused entirely on mobile tools.
  • Provide enterprise clients with refined governance options that simplify role management across large teams.
Managing platform permissions

Access restrictions are turned off by default, meaning no user access changes occur until an administrator intentionally configures them. To restrict web application access for a specific clearance:

  • Navigate to Administration > Users from the main menu.
  • Select the security clearance profile you want to update.
  • Adjust the Access to Fleet Management Application option and click Save.
